Original Synagogue Identity Pamphlet
The color system was conceptually clever but visually unappealing. The Synagogue commissioned a textile artist to create a curtain for the torah. The curtain was a vibrant, musical portrayal of a minora with an Israeli inspired color pallet.
Website Type System and Color Pallet
Four colors; red, green, blue and yellow, were pulled from the curtain to represent the four major identities of the Synagogue; Connect, Learn, Celebrate and Worship. The concept of the system was intuitive and logical, however the language felt more formal than then the new re-imagined mission. The client came up with new language to soften the nature of the messaging; Connect, Engage, Pray and learn.

Re-designed Home Page
Prior to my collaboration on the site, the home page had a two-column grid with a smart slider of photos on the left and an abbreviated mission on the right. Below were three radial images that linked to other pages, with no effect when you hover. The layout felt rigged and did not utilize the appealing horizontal format of a screen.
I removed the two-column grid and allowed the smart slider to occupy the full width of the screen. I then applied a lowered opacity color overlay to each image. The colors reflect the original color system. This includes the clients new friendly language; Connect, Engage, Pray and Learn. I then a placed her new subhead below; A Different Kind of Shul. This subhead quickly became the primary action of the entire site, echoing friendliness with the word Shul.
